This season geek chic is definitely going to be coming back stronger than ever. This kind of combines well with the resurgence of big chunky knitwear (as mentioned last week) and I think it is going to be a great look for the new season that I will definitely be getting on board with. When the fashion world say “Geek” we don’t mean it in the traditional sense of the word – I don’t want you to be a complete nerd with no style or sense of coordination what so ever. The look we are going for is Geek Chic, meaning we are going to dress up with beautiful formal suits, shirts, plaid coats, waistcoats, chunky and outlandish knitwear etc. but then we are going to add the “Geek” pieces after.
This trend is a subtle nod to the geek within you, but still keeping total control of your look and style at the same time. You can add simple elements to your outfit to geek it up easily such as clear lens glasses (really big right now), bow tie, braces and flat cap. It is a great trend for the modern gentleman or those that really love a relaxed formal look, as you can keep your current style and add that little bit extra to your outfit.
As you can see above, a lot of celebrities have got on board with this look within the last year – my personal favourites being Andre 3000 and Mark Ronson as they both just do it with such ease and flair. Both always wear great dandy/mod/gentleman clothes but add the glasses or cap to push it over the edge. You should look out for plaid/tweed fabrics within your pieces, as well as patterned cardigans and knitwear because these really push the whole “geek” vibe from the bottom up.
With that said, I have been scouring the Internet for items that will help you achieve this geek look, starting with the main accessories that you should have in your wardrobe if you really want to pull this off.
Tomorrow I will be making a couple of different outfits in order to show you how you can get on board with this look easily whilst still staying within your normal dressing style.
Geek Chic Fashion Items
So we are going to show you examples of items that optimise geek chic. We will try and stick to accessories that are easy to throw on, and will mix and match well with your existing outfits. Tomorrow we are going to put a few whole outfits together to show you how to do it easily, and if I feel we need to expand on it more, I will put some geek chic clothing items in an article next week.
