Yesterday we featured Kanye West as a style icon and today I said I would put together a quick outfit based on one he has rocked recently. Today we are going to be throwing together the outfit on the right. This is one of his more toned down ensembles – so it should be perfect for everyone no matter your personal style. Plus with such basic items, it means you can customise it easier for you own tastes. When you first look at it you may not notice just how good it is… but delve deeper and we can see exactly what makes this just “work”.
What I love is the combination of casual and formal items mixed together. I really like it when men combine styles that in your mind should clash, but pull them off effortlessly. The lower half of Kanye’s outfit is very much traditional casual with carrot/slim jeans and standard low cut canvas trainers… whereas the top half is a crisp white shirt and undone bow tie – just a completely opposite contrast from top to bottom.
He then pulls the whole outfit together by adding a great leather jacket which is generally a casual item but adds an edge to the look. Of course he throws on the sunglasses to round it out, but if the weather doesn’t permit then you can add clear lens glasses to give off a geeky vibe which would clash perfectly with the edgier leather.
This look is all about taking opposite looks and combining them together - we have casual and formal mixed with rocker and even geek (add the glasses). It works perfectly and really gives your look something “extra” without looking like an uncoordinated mess. Kudos Mr West!
Here are the items you need…
Of course we have high (left) and low (right) cost items, so mix and match to get the look within your budget. You should never skimp on a leather jacket because they are such a great investment piece that will only look BETTER with time.
