I love doing the weekly news round up. Once I get my team of guest contributors together you can count on me to still do 2 or 3 articles myself a week and this will be one I definitely keep along with the look books/how to wear items. I like doing the news so much because it gives me an excuse to look through fashion sites all morning and find interesting stories happening within the world of fashion. Short sharp mini bullets are great to read through so we can pick up on everything and anything we have missed this week in our main articles.
This week I am going to show you an exclusive Japanese high fashion collection, some new and EXCLUSIVE Stussy and Dr Marten combination boots, as well as voucher codes, some new items that caught my eye and much more. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!
We might as well dive straight into it…
Stussy X Dr. Martens Boots
Urban Outfitters have just got this WEB EXCLUSIVE Stussy and Dr. Marten collaboration boot in stock and it rocks! You will not find these in any of your local stores, so if you want a pair you better be quick online. They are made of high quality waterproof suede and have the traditional air walk wedge sole of Dr. Martens. With Stussy being a brand which is synonymous with skateboard and street style, they are very much a laid back casual boot which takes it’s roots from American sneaker culture. They retail at £170 and come in 2 colour ways – black suede with purple detailing and brown suede with green detailing.
Here’s the skinny from Urban Outfitters themselves:
“The powers that be at Dr. Martens and Stussy have put their heads (and feet) together to work on a collaboration that will appeal to both the classic and the casual shoe wearer alike. Drawing on both their street culture associations they have managed to incorporate the British boot culture with the laid back feel of American sneaker culture.”
Check out the colourways below:
They also have got in some great new Acne leather hi-tops and a pair of chunky Nike’s that I have my eye on too:
All Saints
I purposely missed out these guys in the last few news round ups because frankly they weren’t releasing enough new stuff and seemed to be trying to push out all the old stock before really launching into their new season collection. They are back now though and have released some great new stuff over the last week or so. They are sticking to very much what they do best – with great jackets, new rocker graphic tees and also throwing in the odd great piece of on trend footwear: they hit the brogue and worker boot trend spot on this week. Full round up of the new early collection drop this week but for now see key pieces below:
Japanese Clothing & Yushutsu Exclusive Oki-Ni Collection
Oki-Ni are literally the only place I know online who source and stock some of the most amazing Japanese brands I have ever seen. These are always sought after designers who produce some of the greatest design concepts and garments of quality I have ever seen. They do it on a regular basis and that is why I am always keen to see the new designers and collections they are stocking.
Japanese street style is some of the best in the world. They are just so creative with everything they wear and seem to have an innate ability to produce high quality and funky outfits - each with their own PERSONAL quirks which make them INDIVIDUAL to each person. I have spent many hours searching the Internet for inspiration from the culture over there and have added a lot of the little details to my looks over the years in order to show the same individuality every time I dress myself.
Yushutsu are the latest collection Oki-Ni have stocked. I am led to believe they are the only people who have this sought after brand over here (especially in the UK and Europe) and so we can count ourselves lucky we can get our hands on it. There are some truly exclusive pieces within the whole launch which you should look to get in your wardrobe. I guarantee you nobody you know will own such different and amazing items of clothing, and it makes creating a personal look so easy in comparison to all the droids walking round your local city.
Here is an outfit Oki-Ni have put together using their Japanese designers collection – as well as the pieces you need for it – but take a look at the full range today for more inspiration.

Topman and Acid Wash
Topman seem to be trying to start their own trend right now with the whole “Acid Wash” vibe. I haven’t seen this anywhere else but here right now but it could potentially pick up steam with the whole denim vibe (shirts and jackets) continuing strong for this season. In case you didn’t know, acid wash was massive back in the 80′s when truly no-one had style – scary introduction right?! – but the women have just gone through this denim trend and so there are ways of rocking it very successfully. Again with anything to do with denim the key is to mix your washes and I have noticed the men’s versions are very much a more subtle acid wash which is less noticeable. So take a look at some of the items below that they are pushing and let me know what you think – next big trend or fail?

i love this site and i love fashion i just bought that new allsaints t-shirt 3 days ago the skull one with american flag in it…40£ for a t-shirt is my limit thats fine but 1400£ for a pair of oki ni shoes dont bother putting them on no one would even buy them :D…some nice stuff here m8 keep it up can u mabey do some cool winter shoes selection on here please?
Ooooh, y’know…the acid wash stuff doesn’t do it for me. “The 80′s – decade that style forgot”, coming to a cinema near you.
I really like the all-saints brogues. I have in my head an outfit I wanna put together – basically, d’ya know Indiana Jones…when he’s in school teacher mode. That. Those brogues would go a treat with it. Hmmmmm – where on earth do you get gear like that though?
Hi George,
You would be surprised how many people actually do drop £1k+ on shoes mate along with other items like trousers, and shirts etc! It’s just hard to get your head round if you have never spent anything like that regularly.
I will get a collection of shoes together though for you. The problem I have with things like that is it is so varied. Shoes can be loafers, brogues, boots, oxfords, etc. so I tend to do them all individually as collections instead of all together. There is a military boots and brogues collection so far done on site if you want a little bit more inspiration but I will do loafers very soon as well.
Witness do you have a picture of that outfit Indiana Jones wears? I tried looking and picturing it in my head but I couldn’t quite find a decent image. Is this similar:

Hullo :-) Here’s an example worn by sean connery…it’s the material I like, and with a 30s-40s style.

Though I was thinking more of a brown…and it wouldn’t be complete without a pocket watch.
Hmmmmmm – this one: http://rossvross.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/about-indiana-jones-13.jpg?w=138&h=210
Ben,
First and foremost, loving your work. I’ve always been a dedicated student of fashion and had a keeness to push the envelope with what I wear. Unfortunately though, coming from a city in the UK where staple topman jeans and superdry tshirts are the quid pro quo, i’ve shyed away from being too extravagant in my styles.
Alas however, I have recently moved to Japan and in tune with what you were saying about Japanese high fashion, you have hit the nail on the head. I was a little skeptical before I arrived, but been blown away by the individuality of people. On top of that the independent shops are leaps and bounds ahead of anything I’ve seen back home in terms of current & diverse items. Love the fact I can buy an original shirt or jacket that I’ll never see anyone else wearing. Chain stores such as UNIQLO aren’t half bad either, I know they have a few in London so I’m guessing it wont be long before they’re stepping into the TOPSHOP/H&M ring.
Anyway thankfully due to my Japanese reawakening, and discovery of this website and it’s array of tips, tidbits and like minded people, I’ve decided to man up and wear whatever I feel like.
Also, not sure whats happening in UK but on the back of your Kanye article, I noticed him rocking the hankerchief in the top pocket look. Inspired last night, I stumbled upon a whole range of patterned and plain hankies in my local UNIQLO so picked up a few for some nice little outfit additions.
Keep up the good work!
Matt
I actually stumbled across both of those pictures witness and thought that was probably the look you wanted to go for. Will see if I can find anything similar online. I put a great tweed blazer and waistcoat combo in the look book but they were in a soft grey instead of brown. Plus if you wanted to push it you would rock the pocket watch, pocket scarf and bowtie in my eyes. nice!
Matt I know exactly what you mean. I am actually based in Leicester and beleive me you do not find much variation in style here. When I started getting really into fashion and wanting to expand my style further you have people (maybe even friends) who don’t “get it”. They think t-shirt and jeans is the only thing you can wear and it is not “normal” to look any different.
Of course they are totally WRONG and all it means is I look like I am lightyears ahead of everyone else here with ease – even when I am rocking what is essentially the same outfit as them but with a twist.
The people who actually pick up on this are normally women who really appreciate a man with style and fashion sense. They can tell by how you hold yourself, you mixture of items etc. that you know what your doing because they pick up on details much more than men do. So it’s all good if they want to stay backwards round here because it will make my life easier!
Japan will be an amazing experience. You will pick up SOOO much just walking round there everyday – they are so far out in front in terms of style it is unreal. We have a lot of foreign students in our city and I can spot those that came FROM place like Japan in an instance because they just have so much individuality and look amazing.
Pocket scarfs are a great way to add some flair to a formal or relaxed formal outfit. Again it’s just the details that will set you apart.
Keep contributing and if you manage to get some good street style shots get them over to me on the contact email (top of site next to logo).
An interesting read – some good tips here
Cheers Ben – the waistcoat you put up really caught my eye! The pocket watch is all important – y’know, I’ve wanted one since I was about 5.
I’ll also add my appreciation of Japan style! I’ve lived a few places where there’s been a lot of Japanese students and they all, almost without exception, look cool as hell!
I can appreciate feeling stifled with your style, I come from a small grim northern town originally…live in London now, but there’re always guys ready with a put down. In my experience what it comes down to is competition – they don’t like for one second that your rockin’ style, imagination, personality, creativity and confidence. They don’t have the ability to raise their own game – so they wanna put you off of yours.
