So we are nearly at Christmas and next week I think I will do a few articles on what to stick on your Christmas list, and maybe even a few ideas from our women’s writing team for the love of your life. I hope you are all excited at this time of the year?! I would love to start getting into the Christmas Spirit but it seems like there is so much to do at the moment. Between organising the writing team, launching competitions, writing my own articles and developing the site it will probably arrive quicker than ever this year.
Anyway you don’t want to hear all about me, you want the fashion news and you want it now. So here we are with another installment of mini items that may have been missed this week. In this new digital issue we have news of a great new offer by ASOS, Slazenger Vintage releases by Urban Outfitters, some amazing new high fashion releases and watches from Oki-ni, and a new trend collection by Topman which nods towards the futuristic.
So I hope you enjoy, and we all take 15 minutes break today from the rush of organising everything.
So Oki-ni have finally got stock of their TSOVET watch range, and personally I think these are amazing. I am going to be ordering the blacked out version before Christmas as a little treat to myself, although I really like the gold rimmed version as well. You may not have heard of the watch makers before, but they come from California and their watches are inspired by vintage aviation gauges from the 1940s and ’50s. These watches have some of the most distinguished looks of any watch in this particular price range (£350 mark) with oversized chunky watch faces and great detailing.
Oki-ni have also be releasing what I would expect to be their last product collections before the new year, which include A LOT of accessories and jewellery. They have also restocked a lot of their most popular products such as the amazing Humor jeans and chinos which have really taken off this year. If you missed out the first time round, don’t miss out again because they truly are brilliant. Take a look at some of the new releases below:
This week with the party season upon us, MyWardrobe and myself have collaborated on a relaxed formal outfit for the party season. This is great for those men who might be a little older and still want to look professional during the celebrations. An older gentleman with true style will not embarrass themselves at the Christmas “Do”, especially if surrounded by their peers. This outfit combines smart tailoring and sharp lines to give off the formal edge, but uses beautiful materials like tweed, and knitted details to give it a bit of variety from the boring shirt, tie, suit combination. It is also brought fashion forward by the details, which is completely key. Look at the beautiful brown boots by Paul Smith and the knitted detailing within the tie. These two items really add some flair to the outfit, whilst the trousers are fitted but drop crotched so again it just changes your look from being boring and formal, to true fashion forward.
I hope you like it as I think I can see a lot of the professionals (young and old) pulling off this look with ease:
Something that I missed last week but I have already joined this week is the ASOS Premier scheme. This currently costs £24.95 for a whole year, but in that period you get unlimited free next day delivery (or nominated day) as well as completely FREE returns as well!
This was an absolute no-brainer for me as now I can order multiple items whenever I feel like and get them the next day to wear. It also takes away any risk, as ASOS will come to your doorstep or to your work address to pick up any returns you want to send back for free!
You only need to use this service like 4 times in a year to make your money back, and anyone who has sent stuff back to a clothing company will know it can cost as much as £10 for heavy items like boots etc. This is revolutionary to me and for a shop like ASOS who stock literally EVERYTHING you can think of, it is just an amazing offer.
Honestly this could be one of the best £25 you have ever spent. Especially those who buy clothes regularly and like to try multiple sizes and/or styles.
ASOS are also having a 30% OFF SALE right now on loads of major brands. To name just a few here are some that are included: 1971 Reiss, Aquascutum, Diesel, Elvis Jesus, Farhi, Gap, Lee, Levi’s, Humor, Superdry, Wrangler… you see where I am going with this?! Some major designer brands there and it is a great time to pick up Christmas presents or something for yourself. Obviously I cannot even begin to show you all the items included so a selection is included below. I would recommend taking the time to browse through the whole collection if you have a spare half hour today/tonight. With the premier scheme above you can have your hands on them by tomorrow!
Topman have released a new trend collection which they have creatively named Cosmic Mutineer. They describe it as below:
The bright lights and dress code of a revisited late 1970s glam-rock movement shapes the inspiration for the new party season. A stage on which to express your alter-ego with adventure highlighting bold use of animal print, wet-look fabrics, body-conscious silhouettes and lightning bolts of unabashed luminous colour.
So take a look at the collection below and let me know what you think. I do not want to influence your decision but I think they are grasping at straws with this one and just throwing a lot of existing pieces into a loosely associated trend. There are a few true metallics in there, but for something named so “out there” I was expecting a little bit more. I went in expecting bold colours, metallics, neon colour ways and a way of introducing some real statement items into your winter wardrobe. But I came out with stuff like a superman t-shirt, leather jackets and black polo t-shirts. Anyway take a look at a few of the pieces that were fitting of the trend below and the full collection link so you can give your opinions on it:
Topman have also released their Antony Price range which is a lot more exciting. For those that don’t already know, Antony Price is the designer of a choice for a lot of rock bands, indie groups and the whole skinny boy scene. He is an excellent designer and produces some of the most exciting items Topman release each and every year. This season he has concentrated on using textured fabrics (like we have already discussed on site) like tweed and wool to create some amazing statement items that will look great in your wardrobe this year. The whole collection revolves around the modern gentleman and “Dandy” scene (discussed before) which is perfect for those guys rocking the brogues, chinos and bow ties this season. These pieces will slip seamlessly into your wardrobe.
Fashion Designer to the rock stars, famed for glamorous evening wear and suiting, Antony Price is back with his latest collection for Topman.
Look out for 2 themes – gentlemen’s tweed in Autumn colours and dark dandy for a subtle nod to romantic era of the early 80s.
Take a look at some pieces from the collection below:
Now you might consider Slazenger to be a brand that your Grandad or Dad wears to play squash, but I noticed these pieces on the Urban Outfitters site the other day and they really caught my eye. I have since been told they are an EXCLUSIVE release to Urban Outfitters from the Slazenger Vintage range. There are 4 items to be had so far, but the quality and styling of the clothing looks great and has the same feel of the Lyle and Scott heritage range. The 3 key styles available are the roll neck, which we have already said is coming back strong, the v-neck knit and cardigan. All are made using fine lambswool, so the feel and construction of the items should be great. I particularly like the deep red knit available:
