The Japanese Influence – Limited Editions

Japanese design and fashion is now among the world leaders. They always produce some of the most forward thinking fashion pieces and collections year on year. Oki-ni has recognised this and have now managed to secure some limited edition designs and collections from some amazing Japanese designers. As we have featured this brand before, you should now all know about Over the Stripes that were on pre-order for a long time (and we mentioned first! ;)). This brand really caught our imagination and is so clever in its execution. We absolutely loved these. They are now off pre-order and available to buy for immediate delivery for those that missed out.

A brand that we have been chasing for a long time and Oki-ni have finally come through and managed to strike a deal with is the legendary “DIET BUTCHER SLIM SKIN”. It’s one of the most sought after brands coming out of Japan at the moment, but trying to get your hands on a pair (or even trying to find any info for that matter) if you don’t live in Tokyo, is pretty much impossible. Until now. These guys are very precious about their brand and their product (and rightly so) and so Oki-ni only have a few pairs available… if you want these (and we have got them!) then you should act fast as once they are gone they are really gone.

Another Japanese release that we have pictures for are the “WONG KAR WAI for OPENING CEREMONY” t-shirts and posters. These items are based on the cult film “My Blueberry Nights” and these t-shirts are one of our favourite products of the moment. I have a couple of their items and wear these religiously. Note: They are very very small fitting, probably due to the Japanese being built smaller as a generalisation… so if you’re a boy try a size or two bigger than usual.

I suggest you take a chance on one or both of the above brands, nothing makes more of a statement than wearing limited editions or hard sought after items. I receive loads of compliments on my gear all the time as it is different and makes you stand out more than the plain crap you find in any local British store.

DIET BUTCHER SLIM SKIN FOOTWEAR

Diet Butcher Slim Skin is a Japanese fashion label based out of Tokyo. Started by Hisashi Fukatami, the label focuses on producing modern clothing with punk influence and a brand manifesto of freedom in clothing. The unique approach to crossing punk style designs with classic, sophisticated clothing styles has made the label highly regarded in both Japan and a growing international community. ‘Gasp’ was the inspiration for s/s09. In the word’s of the designers, ‘gAsp’ – breathtaking, having difficulty in breathing, pant. This is a creation that expresses the worldview created by from this word by his original interpretation. WONG KAR WAI for OPENING CEREMONY

Opening Ceremony has created a range of Limited Edition t-shirts, posters and postcards featuring original photographs by Wan Kar Wei and coinciding with the release of his first English language film My Blueberry Nights.

The photographs were all taken by Wan Kar Wei while scouting locations for My Blueberry Nights in California, Nevada, Tennessee, New Mexico and New York. Each location is visited by the film’s heroine as she travels across America and represents a different encounter within the film. Beautiful prints on beautiful t-shirts.
