Best Dressed Introduction
With 2009 done and dusted its time to look back through the year and give you Fashion Beans’ 5 Best Dressed Men of 2009. To find the Top 5 I have been asking the same question everywhere and to everyone, “Who do you think are the 5 best dressed men of 2009?” I have been planning this article for a while (since early December) and have had a huge response from facebook, twitter and with the street style guys and now that I’ve got everyone’s top 5 I can reveal the winners. Now I know everyone will not agree with the top 5 and will more than likely have a different top 5 depending on your own personal style and taste, but here are the most popular 5 I found from peoples answers.
Now as I said before these aren’t my top 5 these are the ones I found most popular from peoples answers, I look forward to reading you’re opinions and your own top 5.
No.3 – Robert Pattinson
“Up until I was 12 my sisters used to dress me as a girl and introduced me as ‘Claidia’! Twelve was a turning point as I moved to a mixed school and then I became cool and discovered hair gel.” – Robert Pattinson
However, I don’t think the 23-year-old British actor’s hair was the only thing bringing him into the public eye. Besides his rise to fame over the last 12 months in the Twilight saga, he has also become a big interest in the fashion world, possibly due to his Mum working at a model agency, which he sampled before acting. Rob’s style has been described as ‘emo and ’90′s grunge’ by many different magazines, with his loose shirts, fitted jeans, suit jackets and converse, not to mention the wayfarers, which he seems to be sporting on many occasions.
His style is completely different to most celebs in Hollywood as it is so laid back and clearly adored by the Twilight fans, but fans weren’t the only ones who noticed the fashion sense of Mr Pattinson, as designer Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana revealed in GQ that Robert Pattinson is “Extremely elegant and inspiring, the true essence of a contemporary man.” No wonder he was recently voted GQ’s best dressed British male this year.

Editor Opinion
When Lee sent me through this list I asked whether we had been gathering the opinions of 15 year old girls… I mean how else can Robert Pattinson crack a best dressed list right? It wasn’t until I read what other’s have said about him and saw some of the outfits he has put together that I began to take him a little more seriously. The “guy with the hair” suddenly became more interesting and maybe I had jumped to conclusions because I can’t stand anything to do with sexy Vampire movies!
Looking at the images above I think he has definitely become a role model to the younger generation who want an edgy and bang on trend style. He dresses his age when in casual situations but can also look very sharp when it comes to public appearances and premieres. I would say that this is the type of guy who probably doesn’t have a stylist on a daily basis which makes his look even better in my eyes. He definitely seems to have effortless cool and a ‘don’t give a f*ck’ attitude which I think works in his own personal look.
For those counting [above] he has hit a lot of the major trends we saw last year on the head with everything from worker boots, chino’s, checked shirts/overshirts and even quilting. I think he knows and follows fashion a little more than he let’s on, but this is a prime example of dressing for YOU and pulling it off. He is never immaculately groomed and his outfits are never precise and carefully thought out, which makes them work. He feels comfortable and confident in his clothes and I would assume about himself as well. He might be the perfect example of the man making the clothes and not the other way around.
Let’s just say that I am relieved we didn’t have him at number one though!

have to admit I laugh when Rob makes best dressed lists. you’re right, the guy just doesn’t care haha and we love him for it. Have to disagree about him following fashion though. The clothes he wear may be in fashion now but he’s been wearing them for YEARS. Go and look for more pictures of him. His clothes are practically threadbare lol. Gotta love the guy.
I agree completely with lee … at first I was like wtf but looking at the images above and other images I can see that he is actuality quite stylish and I can see why he is looked on as a fashion icon. Although I don’t think he should have been in the top 5 :) (well he wouldn’t have been on my list anyway)
although I am really really hoping that Alex Turner is in the top 5, however it is not looking that way atm :(. For me he is very stylish and I am personally influenced by his fashion style.
i think he’s a bit to hit and miss for my liking. Top row 2nd from the left is awful in my opinion
I agree with Keith. However, it may have been taken into consideration that he’s only 23…
I have been reading GQ since I was 15 and was quite repulsed by him being number one on their best dressed list. However, it’s not as bad as having RIO FERDINAND at the top.
If Tom Ford doesn’t make it into this list then I’ll be amazed, although I suppose it could be argued his look is a bit one dimensional.
yea he’s got something going on but is it because it’s rob??? haha
“His style is completely different to most celebs in”…that’s why we love Rob…he has his own style and many celebs try to copy him now
He’s number one in my book. He knows how to dress appropriately for his age and for the occasion. I think he always looks incredible.
I’ll be honest in my opinion section I was trying to keep unbiased and look at it from all sides, but I think there are so many more deserving for the top 5 than Rob. His attitude is probably spot on like I mentioned in a throw back to the old Hollywood Actors who really didn’t give a sh*t – James Dean, Marlon Brando etc.
But like other’s have mentioned, Alex Turner, Jude Law, even someone like Ed Westwick I think have a lot more innate fashion sense and more interest in being well dressed.
Unfortunately the public opinion rules and we tried to listen to everyone when collecting the data for this.
ALSO LOOK HOW MANY GIRLS COME TO HIS DEFENSE!
We hardly ever have them comment on the male side of this site, so the guy is doing something right. ;)
I must admit he is very well dressed, but still there are more deserving for this (prestigious!) list. However I would prefer a look book with actual outfits rather than just various clothes he wears. Also, how could you forget the classic crombie he wears, as in the final picture?
I think Rob rocks his fashion. He really doesn’t care…he wears clothes that are comfortable but when he hits the red carpet he is without a doubt the most handsome, well dressed man around. His frame and height make a suit look so good on him, and the fact that he is gorgeous just makes it all perfect. Love you Rob.
If he’s not in a suit he doesn’t look anything special.
On second thoughts, MASSIVELY OVERRATED.
He’s a crap dressed vampire loser
I like his style. And I have to agree with that last thing that Ben said, girls thinking you’re hot should be first priority in my book. =)
