Go to brand for Brit cool, Fred Perry, have just announced a ridiculously cool collaboration as part of their ‘Blank Canvas’ project. The famed polo tee brand, have enlisted the artistic stylings of Sir Peter Blake to create an eye-popping collection of colour and graphic shirts.
Blake isn’t a name generally associated with threads, but you’ll definitely have admired his work in the arena of cover art. The artist is responsible for a series of the some of the most iconic covers from the last 50 years of Brit music; ever marvelled at the psychedelic motley stylings of The Beatle’s ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ cover? Or spent time musing over Paul Weller’s Stanley Road? Yup that’s Sir Peter’s handy work.
Bold collage and paintwork are his signature style and this bursts through in uncompromising style through the capsule collection; and for those who like to indulge in a little nostalgia, the badge style motifs have more than whiff of school day backpack accessories and scout badge aesthetics to them. And in case you were in any doubt about the patriotic tendencies of the brand or the artist, all three shirts in the collection feature a proud Union Jack.
With a limited run of just 1000 in each style, the shirts are set to become as iconic and sought after as Blake’s artistic endeavours. Smart move Fred Perry.
