London Fashion Week Runway Rundown: Christopher Shannon
Modern and contemporary casual wear with a sporting edge has served Christopher Shannon well in his future-season preview. Shannon has developed on a signature look that is unmistakably his – and for SS12 he’s built upon his identifiable designs with a storming collection.
Through seamlessly infusing everyday menswear staples with unexpected textures and high performance fabrics, Shannon turns the notion of functionality for menswear on its head and throws it into the urban landscape, via obscure points of inspiration.
For a collection that can, on occasion, appear to lack a coherent base of reference, there are some instant successes and items that are already on the FashionBeans wish list.
Patchwork elements on tops and shirts, played perfectly against colour-blocked separates add a sense of modernity and sharp drama to the overall aesthetic. Well-proportioned shorts are set to be a sure fire hit, while a street wear vibe for jackets and coats feels to be just the right amount of tough. And we’re not entirely sure why, but suddenly we want tassels on every seam.
