Fashion week’s menswear star was most definitely James Small. The feted designer presented a mature and concise collection that reflected an envious, modern way of dressing.
We were thrilled to see the progression of the ditsy floral prints that have become somewhat of a signature for Small (along with a toe, rather curiously, dipped into camouflage). From pink on black, earthy greens and refreshing blues, there is a floral colour way to suit every taste.
Bold and confident colour blocking in maroons and sumptuous midnight blue shades added depth to the collection, while the fine tailoring of the trousers and shirts and expert craftsmanship was plain to see. Velvet smoking jackets provided a tactile lounge feel to proceedings and reasserted the trend that SS12 is going to be as much about comfortable decadence as it will be about sharp sartorial statements.
With the fashion world falling at James’s feet, the designer also received one of the biggest accolades one could hope for during LFW: Kate Moss sat front at his presentation. High praise indeed.
