Although the monk strap shoe trend first rose to prominence in SS11, it seems set to continue into AW11 – with new releases such as the Mark McNairy Double Monk Strap Shoe.
Back in May, Ben Jones previewed this key footwear trend (see article here) – showcasing a variety of current styles, as well as tips on how to wear them. All of us here at FashionBeans are glad to see this particular trend continuing into AW11, as we think that monk straps offer a distinctive style that really stands out from the simple lace-up varieties on the market.
This particular design comes from the New Amsterdam collection, is made from premium full grain leather and available in a dark brown colour way. As these monk strap shoes feature a double buckle fastening, they really do give off a eye catching aesthetic, whilst adding a contemporary twist to the traditional single monk strap. This should be seen as the evolution and natural progression from the initial single strap models we have seen.
Other details include: A natural Rubber Crepe sole, fully leather lined with a Mark McNairy logo to the insole and toe cap detailing that adds to the timeless aesthetic of the shoe.
Monk straps offer great versatility; they can be dressed up and paired with suits and tailoring for work, or dressed down with a pair of slim jeans. Either way, make sure you really show off the unique statement feature of the shoes: the buckles.
