London based label Self returns once again to Topman to release a new collection for fall 2011. Self aims to bridge the gap between high street and high end clothing; they create contemporary basics that will take you from season to season; with garments produced in high quality materials but without the extortionate price tag.
This season’s collection was designed by Mark Budd and Andy Chu and features a more casual appearance, with the inclusion of relaxed loose fit trousers, knitwear and outerwear.
Our favourites from the collection are the Navy Pea Coat, and the Cable Knit Jumper.
The peacoat is renowned as one of fashion’s timeless pieces of outerwear, however Self have managed to give this particular style a unique and modern twist. They cropped the piece quite short (above waist height) in length and also utilised bold white buttons to create quite a stark contrast against the dark navy backdrop – unusual for a such classic style but it transforms it into a real statement piece.
The cable knit jumper caught our eye not only because cable knit a key texture trend for the season, but its two tone Nautical design of navy and white is unlike any others we have seen on the market so far and will definitely set you apart from the crowd.
Self pride themselves on attention to detail and a personal touch. This is apparent in the detailing throughout the collection with items including French seams and three holed stitched buttons – these cannot be machine sewn so every one has been personally sewn by hand. Overall it leaves you safe in the knowledge that care and consideration has been given to each piece.
