Realm & Empire Spring 2012 Lookbook
Spring 2012 will witness the launch of Realm & Empire’s first collection, which focuses on a stripped back, functional aesthetic based on strong British heritage.
From the brand’s name ‘Realm & Empire’ to their slogan ‘Property of Great Britain’, there comes no surprise that creative director Stephen Gill’s inspiration is British history.
Realm & Empire inject substance into style with their t-shirts and sweaters bearing quotes and images from the Churchill War Rooms at the Imperial War Museum in London – with whom Realm & Empire formed an exclusive affiliation to gain access to the biggest archive of original World War II material.
Realm & Empire are an example of how fashion can truly come alive when it collaborates with another subject such as history, which can sometimes be over looked in favour of more visual topics within art and design.
The heritage trend is showing no signs of stopping and Realm & Empire will no doubt reign supreme over menswear next season. With such a poignant source of inspiration for their début collection, I am already beginning to wonder what further references and interpretations we will see from Realm & Empire come autumn 2012.
