A little while ago, we at FashionBeans introduced London-based brand Aqua by Aqua and presented their spring/summer 2012 lookbook. As we now move into the transitional months, the brand have now released their new autumn/winter 2012 offering, entitled ‘ElDorado’.
Aqua by Aqua have placed more emphasis on streetwear for this collection, and it is clear they have refined their direction and their target customer. Previous collections have had a strong core streetwear influence, which was combined with other safer styles such as checks and graphic tees. You may remember their chain print from last season, which received a large amount of press from i-D and Dazed and Confused magazine amongst others. This collection follows on from this, utilising an integral print that bind the range together.
In terms of the key print, this time it consists of a series of interlocking rings, perhaps inspired by this year’s Olympic fever. The all-over print comes in a bright gold, pink and blue colour scheme on a navy backdrop, or a monochrome version. It is prominently used on tees, joggers, sweaters and shirts, which can all be worn together for maximum impact.
This trend for print-matching was big this spring/summer and is looking like it will carry on way into the new season. For novices, try a sweater and shirt combination paired with dark jeans and trainers. This ring pattern is also adapted to a placement print for graphic tees and muscle tops in monochrome or bottle green, which also happens to be a key colour in this collection.
Other noteworthy pieces include inverted triangle tees/sweaters and a great black-on-black varsity jacket with real leather sleeves.
As always with Aqua, the collection will hit stores in several drops across the season – so make sure to pop into the Beak Street store regularly, or check online at aquabyaqua.com.
