Balenciaga Structured Wool-Blend Jacket
Balenciaga, the fashion house founded by Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga, has been producing hand crafted, luxury clothing since 1918. Their latest output marks the release of some of the label’s most intriguing menswear designs yet – none more so than the current season’s structured wool-blend jacket. Continuing Balenciaga’s tradition of structural fashion (often more present in their women’s collections), the wool-blend jacket is a modern interpretation of the leather biker jacket.
The jacket’s grey/green wool and rayon combine to accentuate the boxy shape and bold outline of its design, casting the shadow of a meta-modern James Dean. Other ‘tech specs’ include: an adjustable waistband strap, notch lapel, concealed button fastenings and linear placement of slit/flap pockets. Fully lined and featuring interior pockets, the wool-blend jacket also incorporates slim-fit sleeves finished with zipped cuffs.
As one might expect from Balenciaga, the jacket’s construction is of the highest quality and the minimal aesthetic gives the impression that complex algorithms were used to calculate the minimum number of stitches required. Although this design may be considered unusual or even avant-garde, it is this simplicity that prevents it from becoming detractive.
The obvious companions for the jacket’s geometric profile may be tailored trousers and formal leather shoes. However, combining with dark selvedge jeans, chukkas and white t-shirt could give a contemporary take on a vintage look.
The Structured Wool-Blend Jacket by Balenciaga is available from Mr.Porter.
