This year we have been swamped with collaborations. Designers are teaming up with high street giants (H&M x Marni), popular children’s book characters (Comme des Garcons x Where’s Wally) and brands have also collaborated with each other.
One such brand mash-up comes from streetwear giants Bape and American sports/athletic super-brand Undefeated. In the ever competitive streetwear market, patrons can be incredibly clued up on specific pieces, brand and collections – sometimes more so than the high fashion pack – and are always on the lookout for an exclusive or limited edition item. If you don’t believe me, check the queues outside Nike, Foot Patrol or Foot Locker every time a new limited edition sneaker is released.
So it is safe to say that this latest collaboration may have some people rather excited. The lookbook features skateboarding models seemingly living the American teen’s dream, boarding or chilling in the street without a care in the world. And by looking at the collection, I want to be involved.
One of the biggest summer menswear trends is incorporated, with vintage Hawaiian surf prints coming in three’s – hats, shirts and shorts. The all-over print trend has also been dominant within the industry, and Bape x Undefeated have kindly provided two different options – one light and fresh in blue and white, the other more earthy and warm with yellow and brown. There are also the obligatory graphic tees, which come bearing the Bape x Undefeated logo or super-bright surf scenes and graphics.
This is skateboard chic, for the streetwear obsessives.
