It’s fair to say that should you have mentioned a Boxfresh collaboration to us a few years ago, it would have failed to get our fashion juices flowing (and that’s putting it politely). However, after a few seasons of catch up, the brand is back on track – becoming a market leader in streetwear once again.
As well as putting out some solid collections of late, Boxfresh have now teamed up with extremely high-end streetwear experts ‘Passarella Death Squad’ – earning them even more fashion stripes.
This capsule collection is an interesting fusing of two brands that occupy the same market but at polar ends of the spectrum. The cynics amongst you may think the collision would result in Boxfresh trying to cash in on the credentials of Passarella Death Squad, but after seeing the collection we are pleased to report that this is not the case.
The fabrication is as high-end as you would expect from PDS (for those not in the know, all their fabrics are exclusively sourced from Japan) mixed with a design concept befitting of both brands. The result is all encompassing but with an edge previously unfamiliar to Boxfresh.
The collection takes classic menswear items and gives a definitive streetwear twist to each garment. The humble sweater becomes a canvas for an uber cool art print; the hoody a lesson in printed linings; the trench a study of modern fabrication; and the leather jacket shows the use of asymmetry to great effect.
Whilst any of the items would make a smart purchase, we have always hankered after a Passarella Death Squad Leather – notorious for utilising artisan lamb leather. At £300 it’s not exactly high street in price, yet nor is it high street in quality or design – making it well worth the splurge. The humble tees offer a great entry point at a reasonable price (you will get change from a fifty), plus you are guaranteed not to see every other Tom, Dick and Harry styling one out.
So whilst we approached this collaborative exercise in streetwear with some trepidation, the result is one of the best and most wearable capsule collections of the year.
