A little while ago we featured a fashion comeback kid in menswear – the white trouser). Previously reserved for middle aged men aboard cruise ships or flamboyant European waiters, the white trouser has been reincarnated as a cool and chic spring/summer alternative. With this in mind, Burberry Brit have released their latest spring/summer 2012 offering, aptly named the ‘White Collection’.
The clue is in the title here, with the collection being made up of white clothing and accessories. There are actually some grey pieces in there too, and let’s face it – wearing all white isn’t the most practical sartorial choice, even if the premium design houses were pushing the trend this year.
Clothing wise, the collection provides the perfect smart-casual pieces that will serve you well all season. T-shirts and long-sleeve Henley tops are given just enough detail to avoid becoming too bland, offering the wearer a contemporary and on trend aesthetic when teamed with the slim-fit white jeans. There are also cashmere crew neck sweaters, and the sportswear-inspired logo sweat – perfect for adding the ‘luxe’ aspect to this season’s sportswear trend.
The standout piece from the collection however is also Burberry’s calling card – the trench coat. This comes in a nice light cream colour for increased wearability – just imagine a white trench… not very practical! With camel coloured buttons and detailing such as epaulettes and buckled cuffs, the trench will serve as a great investment piece rather than a temporary item from a current trend. A Burberry trench will last forever, and this Brit number also comes in at a slightly lower price point, making it more affordable for most.
