With the release of the new men’s fragrance from Calvin Klein, the brand have also released a short film which will run alongside the print campaign.
Brands are increasingly using the medium of film to showcase new collections, lookbooks and products and it seems that commercials and print advertising is no longer enough. Pioneers of fashion film such as Nick Knight and Rankin have brought it to the forefront of the industry’s consciousness and video is the new frontier for digital immersion in fashion.
On that note, ‘Encounter’ stars Swedish style icon Alexander Skarsgard and face of the brand Lara Stone in a dark, gritty and tense 2 minute showcase. Highlighting the tension between the film’s protagonists and their encounter, the weather certainly adds to the mystique. Skarsgard seems very keen to get to the rather precarious and remote home of Lara Stone – quite understandably of course.
The fragrance itself is ‘unapologetically masculine’, combining the warm tones of cognac and wood. The use of wood fragrances has become popular again in recent times, championed by Tom Ford in his ‘Oud Wood’ parfum and Marc Jacobs’ ‘Bang’. I would suggest wearing such a heady fragrance in the evening, as it can be quite overpowering in the daytime but very sensual at night.
