For those of our readers that may not already be aware, we have got some very exciting news to share with you all. A few months ago, the FashionBeans team – along with top fashion bloggers Individualism and A La Male – were approached by high street favourite River Island to design an exclusive range of accessories to go on sale this autumn/winter, as part of their Blogger Design Project.
Working with River Island’s buying and design team throughout the process, each blog designed and developed an innovative collection, which consists of:
Our resident men’s fashion basics expert, the one and only Matt Allinson, was chosen to be FashionBeans’ representative for the project, and was given the task of creating designs that represented the ethos of our website and the tastes of our collective readership.
With this in mind, here at FashionBeans we are firm fans of herringbone – it is a refined, heritage fabric that adds texture and character to any look whilst also being seasonally appropriate for the autumn/period. This meant it was a no brainer as to which fabric we would utilise to make up the main body of our collection.
From there, we decided to emphasise the refined aspect of the collection by incorporating subtle contrasting brown leather look trims and panels, in order to give the accessories a more sophisticated aesthetic and ensure their durability. After all, here at FashionBeans we like to preach timelessness and selecting pieces that are built to last.
However, we also like to encourage you to develop your individual style and always have our finger on the pulse of the latest trends. This led to us include two key pieces of detailing within the iPad case and Tote designs: Subtle Aztec patterned sections and a ‘breast pocket’.
On the iPad case there is a small striking Aztec section to the bottom of the case, whereas on the tote bag this has been incorporated onto the underside of the shoulder straps. Both are subtle and small nods to the biggest trend in the industry right now, but serve as a striking piece of detailing, rather than being garish.
The integrated front ‘breast’ pockets on these 2 designs have also been included for a very specific reason – although they can be functional, why not add a touch of individuality and add a splash of colour to your accessories through a striking pocket square? Its detailing such as this that will set you apart from the rest!
These are the concept pictures from a couple of months ago. The finished products are superb and finished to a higher standard. They also have a couple of extra additions, such as a leather look trim to the outside seam of the iPhone case and leather look handles on the tote with just a printed Aztec under-section:
Here is a picture taken in the office of the final accessories collection, so you can see the overall quality of the actual accessories:
Retailing at £10 for the iPhone case, £18 for the iPad cover and £25 for the tote, you can treat yourself to one (or all three) as of today from select River Island stores or online over on the River Island website (just search for ‘Fashion Beans’).
But you’ll have to get there quick, as this collection is limited edition with just 250 of each piece having been made! Once they’re gone, they’re gone!
