GANT by Michael Bastian Spring/Summer 2012: Sunshine Days
Master of all things preppy, Michael Bastian’s long standing collaboration with GANT has seen the launch of a new spring/summer lookbook, entitled ‘Sunshine Days’. Bastian has based the collection around the idea of his perfect Hawaiian vacation, citing 70s suburbia as an inspiration, creating a lookbook that is both laid back and on trend.
The collection is focused on creating an easy to wear, bright wardrobe for the coming summer holidays. The looks are kept casual, with shirts left unbuttoned and collars popped. Tailoring is sparse and is kept relaxed, with sleeves and trouser legs rolled, while bold patterns and bright colours create a sense of fun that provides a lively alternative to crisp and immaculate styling.
As one of, if not the, major trends this summer, patterns feature heavily in the collection. In line with the Hawaiian influence, animal and floral prints are seen in abundance. It gives the collection a beachwear vibe while Bastian adds an eccentric touch by mixing them with smart checks and pinstripes.
Bastian shows his expertise in putting a look together by layering unusual combinations of items. Shirts and polos are layered with light outerwear and knits in contrasting styles, creating a ‘thrown-together’ look that complements the easy-going attitude the designer wanted to encapsulate with the collection.
GANT by Michael Bastian’s spring/summer collection is ideal for those that want an up to date wardrobe that doesn’t require any fuss to throw on. Suitable for the beach or the bar, it is ideal for those that want to kick back and relax in style.
