After what seems like a decade (it actually has been ten years), Le Coq Sportif has returned to our sports fashion peripheries to sponsor this year’s Tour de France.
To celebrate this in its 130th anniversary year, the French sportswear brand has rolled out a hip new collection called ‘Le Grande Boucle’ (The Big Loop – an affectionate term for the famous tour).
I know what you’re thinking. Why harp on about this if it’s mainly aimed at trendy cyclists? Let me tell you. As well as launching all of its fashionable sporting attire, Le Coq has created some unique polo shirts and jackets that would fit nicely in your summer wardrobe.
Everything has a retro chic feel about it. What took my fancy first of all was the Polo pois La Grande Boucle. Its elegant 1970s design comes in a polka-dot pique with contrasting collar and short sleeves. Its neckline and buttons are given a Vichy print. My favourite part about this top is its back pocket and zip, which I hope you’ll agree, looks different and stylish.
The Polo Vichy, which comes in a bright yellow or dark green, is a sleek alternative to your favourite tee.
There are a few jackets to choose from, all of which have the same vintage sporty feel. The Full Zip Sweat has a ‘teddy’ shape and a polka-dot lining. The outer is 100% cotton and like the polos in this collection, this jacket has a back pocket on the right – nice.
Le Coq Sportif has stamped its well-known rooster logo on the jerseys of leading cyclists. This includes the yellow jersey, the green jersey, the polka dot jersey and the white jersey. And let’s face it – if it’s good enough for the likes of famous Tour winners Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault and Eddy Merck, then it’s good enough for you and I, right?
Le Grande Boucle is available this month in selected stores within the UK.
