Lou Dalton AW12 Tweed Biker Jacket
Whilst it may seem dishearteningly premature to be thinking of what you’ll be wearing for winter when we’re yet to have a proper summer, the more style conscious amongst us will be beginning to ponder what we’ll wish to don when the mercury drops.
The men’s statement coat has become something of a prestige item in recent years, with super brands like Burberry and Gucci offering beautifully made wool overcoat styles and 40s and 70s-inspired sheepskin numbers.
The perfect combination of biker-cool and shearling luxe, a rust-red tweed and shearling biker coat by British design wunderkind Lou Dalton is set to be this winter’s most coveted cover-up.
Cut from energetically coloured and patriotic rust-tone Harris Tweed, this edgy biker style strikes the perfect balance between vintage cool and expressive modernity. Sporting a shearling-detailed collar and chrome zip detailing, this exquisitely crafted coat ticks all the right boxes on the sartorial checklist.
Leaving school at the age of 16 to pursue a career as a pattern-cutter, London-based Dalton launched her eponymous label in 2005. Displaying a coherent understanding and passion for traditional British style and culture, Dalton unfailingly delivers perceptive and inspired collections that personify the best in modern vintage design.
Influenced by the military silhouettes and styling and the beg-and-borrow aesthetic of the Second World War, Dalton drew her inspiration for her AW12 collection from the saga of a soldier stationed on a farm in 1940’s England, who falls head-over-heels for a land girl, and, in her own words, “goes AWOL, using elements of her father’s country wardrobe and his own military garb to disguise his identity”.
The entire collection references the make-do-and mend culture of wartime Britain, with mix-and-match ensembles and a quirky cross-blend of clothing genres. The garments in the AW12 assembly also perfectly demonstrate Dalton’s aptitude for layering, texture and colour.
With its seamless cut, luxurious materials and a rather romantic design story, the tweed biker jacket certainly steals the show in the AW12 collection – a bold and eclectic style, it’s guaranteed to be at the top of every discerning gent’s sartorial wish list.
