Since launching in Berlin in 2004, designer eyeglass company, MYKITA, have wasted no time in positioning their products as objects of desire. With their optical frames being featured in blockbuster films such as the 2010 sci-fi sequel Tron: Legacy and the 2011 English-language adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, adorned by actors Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig respectively, MYKITA are well on their way to becoming a household name. However, for many eyewear enthusiasts, they already are.
It’s little wonder they’ve taken a place alongside classic heritage companies, considering their emphasis on retro silhouettes. Their latest optical frames, which form part of their larger MYKITA Lite collection (a series of extremely lightweight steel frames), would not look out of place in a candid shot of your favourite 1930s matinee idol.
With a focus on the magnificent and daring round eyeshape which is currently experiencing a major resurgence, the new models are sure to be a hit with movie stars, neighbourhood hipsters and fashionable intellectuals the world over. The SIGUR model is a simple and elegant piece, made up of smooth steel arches and crisp straight temples, and is available in a bold neon pink or a more classic matte silver and glossy gold colourway.
On the sunglasses side of things, the TAULANT model looks to be the gorgeous lovechild of the Ray-Ban Outdoorsman and a pair of rugged motorcycle goggles, giving off a timeless yet eye-catching aesthetic that is sure to make their wearer the envy of any beach bully in the summer of next year.
Continuing with their SS13 sun collection, MYKITA have returned with the trendy circulars of the SIGUR and teamed up with Paris-based couturier Damir Doma to launch a new luxury collaborative line. Featuring premium lenses manufactured by Zeiss and eight layers of natural horn in order to afford the frames unique blends of natural tones, the Damir Doma x MYKITA sunglasses are available in graphite, gold or platinum-plated finishes and are available for pre-order now at LN-CC.
The SIGUR and TAULANT optical frames are expected to be available in high-end optical stores in the first quarter of 2013.
