New at my-wardrobe is this linen blazer – could it be the perfect smart-casual crossover for this long-awaited summer?
With the capacity to be worn in a huge variety of combinations, it certainly fills a lot of specific niches. Chinos, jeans and shorts could go with polo, Oxford and check shirts alongside the jacket. The fit is tailored and slim, suiting a modern approach to tailoring. As far as concerns dimensions: length-wise the jacket sits just below the belt line (in a similar manner to a sports jacket), the lapel is thin and the shoulders only lightly constructed. As a whole, the jacket can be up-sized to give a more relaxed fit.
However, versatility is not all that it can offer. The colouring means that this jacket will work best with pairings you would typically use with light grey: dark navy, green, red or pink. Other options for creating an individual look involve pocket handkerchiefs, the dandy’s standard accessory, or – if you want to add both a preppy edge and a nod to this summer’s trends – a patterned bow tie.
Farhi have been around for 30 years and the brand is the sole creation of its talismanic designer Nicole. The design ethos is a personal one, and in the SS12 collection it focused on the use of light colour. This blazer is both a strong representative of that aesthetic ideal, and a good opportunity to use some of the high fashion concepts of the brand in an everyday setting. It’s a perfect crossover in more ways than one.
French Connection, Nicole Farhi’s parent company, had a tough Christmas – but with this kind of offering, they might be sprucing up for summer.
