Oliver Sweeney ‘Walk of Art’ Shoe Customisation at Selfridges London
Our clothes are very much an extension of our personalities. They are a physical representation of what otherwise goes unnoticed to passers by. This is one of the reasons why customisation has become so popular in today’s mass-manufactured era of clothing; everyone wants to stand out in his or her own way. Oliver Sweeney has his own insightful way of giving you the opportunity.
Back in September 2011, Oliver Sweeney launched a creative space within the iconic Selfridges department store in London. The great success of last year’s ‘Tattoo Your Shoe’ has warranted a second appearance of the innovative pop-up.
In addition to the tattoo option, this year’s booth also features further customization techniques, including Tamponato and a range of coloured laces. Tamponato (don’t worry, I had no idea what it was either) is the age-old Italian art of colouring leather shoes. Using brushes and sponges, the dye is applied in layers, giving a level of quality customisation that is unparalleled. The finish is usually only reserved for the most expensive pairs of shoes, so the service is an opportunity as much as a luxury.
A pair would definitely make for a beautiful present (hint hint, nudge nudge friends/relatives/generous strangers).
The service is available from August 1st – 19th 2012 and comes free-of-charge when you purchase any pair of Oliver Sweeney shoes at Selfridges London.

Looking good isn’t important, it’s everything.
