The One Nine Zero Six label is an offshoot of British brand Gymphlex, who over the last 100 years have provided high performance fabrics to the likes of Burberry and Barbour as well as the British military and some of England’s oldest schools. After gaining popularity in Japan with their license collection, Gymphlex announced the launch of the premium menswear sub-label in 2011.
Despite their parent brand’s illustrious history, One Nine Zero Six have veered away from the much maligned ‘’heritage’ tag that might have been expected and instead adopted a more progressive and forward thinking approach to design. The autumn/winter range takes reference points from the Gymphlex tradition and translates them into a carefully crafted and contemporary menswear collection.
The soft and casual fitting, chevron-patterned knitwear is seasoned with delicate navy details, a colour that frequents much of the collection. Burgundy, a staple on this seasons’ designer menswear runways, is another common thread, weaving it’s way from outerwear to accessories.
Highlights come in the form of expertly tailored, two-button blazers and heavy-cotton work shirts, the latter featuring a contrasting wool collar and chest pocket. Previously described by Creative Director Dean Webster as ‘super normal,’ the label’s aesthetic is one that is simplistic, functional and suitable for everyday wear.
Overall, the AW12 collection from One Nine Zero Six utilises the highest quality cloth to create designs that are subtle enough to infiltrate any man’s wardrobe.
