Last month’s brief foray into, unseasonably, warm weather had us all reaching for our summer favourites once more – before the predictable April showers kicked in. Close to the top of the list for most stylish men must be the humble polo shirt, an item that can be dressed up or dressed down with consummate ease. Alas, very few other pieces in our wardrobe have such versatility.
This season sees uber trendy French label, The Kooples, branch into the world of casual sportswear with their new range SPORT. The stand out pieces from this collection have to be the polo shirts.
Available in a spectrum of different colours, it would be impossible to not find a shade or colour to suit. Renowned for their attention to detail, they also offer up a range of different detailing options which includes embroidered trim and print as well as clever pre-washes and distressed fabrics.
The brand have drafted the services of former footballer, occasional actor/politician and 100% mad man Eric Cantona to front the SPORT collection, with the former Manchester United legend appearing in both the campaign images and advertisements. He is perhaps the perfect choice, as there – arguably – hasn’t been a French sports personality who has had more of an impact on these shores, and they will be hoping for a similar effect with their collection this summer.
The clash of the traditional American collegiate staple and sharp Parisian styling makes this range a must have this spring/summer. Whether you prefer to wear them casually with shorts, or more formally under a blazer, this polo shirt will look equally stylish and effortlessly cool.
Overall, this is an all time classic piece of menswear with a modern French twist – what is there not to like? Check them out on the Kooples website or in one of their stores if you are after something with a little bit of je ne sais quoi.
