After a summer of having to dress for all weather conditions (one day it was scorching the next could be a storm the amazon would be proud of), we are now welcoming the winter season, where at least you know what to expect – jumpers and layers are always a must, topped off with the annual statement winter coat. However, although most of us may still be undecided on our outerwear of choice, we certainly know where our next knitwear update is coming from.
James Long for Topman launched in the suitably autumnal Rekorderlig Winter Forest Bar to a rave reception (do make a visit to the enchanted forest, situated on brick lane, for a delicious hot cider). Whilst the preview images had whet our appetite for the knitwear designer capsule collection, seeing them in the flesh made us all the more excited for the launch in stores on the 12th of November 2012.
The collection is a wonderfully tactile collage of textures and geometry, all anchored with a multi-yarn of lurex. Whilst this all sounds very challenging for the ‘average to Joe’ to wear, all the designs are surprisingly wearable. It was hard to pick a highlight of the collection, as we would welcome any into our wardrobe, but we hear the multi-coloured check is James’ favourite – and we have to agree. Purchase it over-sized and wear with skinny trouser for a 90s grunge look Jordan Catalano would be proud of.
We went away with a mental shopping list in our head and a nicely dressed gingerbread man in the goodie bag wearing a James Long creation (all be it made from icing) – we must point out that it’s the first time we have ever being jealous of a gingerbread man.
We will be first in line with our 90 English pounds in our back pocket when the collection launches, and we predict we will not be the only ones. If queuing is not your thing, make sure you visit the website – where the full collection is also available.
