Over the past few seasons Aqua by Aqua have gained a reputation for using bold geometric prints and standout block-colours. Their interlocking rings pattern was a dominant feature of the AW12 ‘ElDorado’ range and drew a significant amount of attention from the industry – with the chain-style graphic printed across shirts, sweaters and joggers.
However, despite the mass publicity the aforementioned ring pattern attracted, it would seem Aqua by Aqua have dropped the identifiable graphic for their new SS13 ‘Platoon’ collection and replaced it with a quirky camo/animal print style that is prominent throughout the lookbook.
The rough camo-esque graphic is an interesting interpretation of the thriving print trend that we are expecting to see much more of in the coming months. Used in both vibrant and subtle colour schemes, the print has been utilised in many different ways, therefore giving you a choice of how bold you wish to go with it.
One interesting garment that makes use of the print (as an overlay on top of a 70s style circular print) is the Contagion Sleeveless T-shirt. At first this top may appear to be pushing the boundaries of men’s dress a little too far, but worn in the right place and in the correct way, I am convinced it has a place in a forward thinking man’s high summer/beach wardrobe.
Although the eye is instinctively drawn to the bold colour choice of this Platoon collection, it also consists of some much more refined pieces. For instance, the Dimension Bomber jacket comes in a timeless navy colourway and fits in perfectly with the current industry emphasis on sport luxe. Styled with vintage trainers throughout, the Aqua by Aqua SS13 lookbook provides great inspiration for your summer sportswear looks, and is a shining example of how to integrate the growing trend within your own wardrobe.
