Brutus x Dr. Martens TrimFit Shirt
Two classic British menswear brands have come together again for their second collaboration, which has resulted in the release of this unique gingham check ‘TrimFit’ short sleeve shirt. Coming in an oxblood and yellow check, the gingham pattern aims to reflect Dr. Martens’ branding colours, thereby reinforcing a typical ‘Mod’/’Skinhead’ aesthetic. Moreover, the red handkerchief located in the top right pocket looks to hint at traditional ‘Suedehead’ style – a sub-culture who were known for accommodating formal wear into their working lad style. In reference to the cut of this shirt, the two brands have stuck to what they know best and emulated the original ‘Trimfit’ silhouette. The large three-fingered size collar, darts to the back and double button dart vented sleeves all combine to create the unique style that Brutus have become renowned for. Whilst it takes bravery to fully replicate a signature ‘Skinhead’ look, when matched with a the new SS13 Dr. Martens boots, striped braces and Levi’s jeans/Sta-Prest slacks, the shirt can complete a summer 1960s inspired outfit perfectly. However, for a more refined approach, try pairing it with a burgundy Harrington and Clark Originals desert boots, thereby moving towards a more ‘Mod’ inspired aesthetic. Produced in the Hong Kong factory that the original ‘Trimfit’ shirt was made, the brands have put considerable effort into keeping the manufacturing process as authentic as possible – ensuring that this unique shirt is not a copy but a true revival of the iconic 1960s gingham ‘Trimfit’.
