These questions remain unanswered, and are largely down to personal opinion; one thing we can tell you with absolute certainty, however, is that a crisp white shirt will never go out of fashion. We will always, in times of dress code despair, turn to the timeless white shirt. When purchasing staples such as the white shirt, we often observe the tried and tested rule of ‘you get what you pay for’. But rules are made to be broken and Burton has announced their plans to do just that by teaming up with Royal College of Art (RCA) student Jade Jung Sung (studying an MA at the institution). The classic British hertiage brand have utilised the skills of this emerging design talent to elevate their shirt offering from standard to sublime. The collection consists of four shirts that each fulfil a differing need: a weekend shirt, work shirt, drinks shirt and black tie shirt – take your pick. Jade herself describes the collection as a fusion of classic shirt styles from the early 1900s with vintage denim jacket detailing – a somewhat unlikely marriage of eras and genres, but one that works extremely well. The overall appearance of each shirt is classic but with a contemporary twist, making them perfect for young professionals or those looking for something that will subtly separate their smart-casual looks from the crowd. The standout piece of the collection is the pale blue shirt with on trend white contrast sleeves. The mix of hues works extremely well, making this piece versatile enough to work as a standalone statement piece or layered under a suit for that upcoming summer wedding (providing a nice point of difference when you lose the jacket for the evening do).
