Intelligent oversizing is the order of Chelsea Bravo as the brand unveils its ‘Dysfunction’ collection. The Brooklyn-born, London-based designer, who was selected to showcase at Graduate Fashion Week in 2010, is taking on a daring approach to fit with an experimental line. Delivered in a neutral palette of white, beige and purple hues, the former intern of menswear designer Christopher Shannon not only challenges gender specific design, but also outlines a modern approach to wearability. Sticking to looser fabrics, University for the Creative Arts graduate Bravo incorporates cottons and linens throughout. Detailing in the form of contrast, patchwork and subtle layering works to keep the aesthetic soft whilst maintaining the designer’s ‘London cool’ appeal. Key pieces within the offering include a pale yellow shirt with contrast pocket, and a sleeveless shirt with patchwork triangles. However, the statement piece that summarises the entire collection is the purple all-in-one with white mid-length sleeves. Its bold yet simple design instantly conveys the underlying thought process at work.
