Deluxe AW13 Collection
Entitled ‘Talk to Blue’, Japan-based brand Deluxe have recently dropped their highly regarded and widely publicised AW13 collection, in requisite timing for the upcoming autumn season.
The collection’s creative direction was provided by founder/head designer Hideke ‘Hue’ Himora – whose self-professed design style is one that is heavily influenced by American street culture. Often referred to as a ‘street tailor’, Hue’s unique blend of rugged streetwear and high end fashion provides the inception point of Deluxe.
Deluxe’s autumn/winter offering is a complete line of minimalist, form-fitting pieces with an evident timeless element interwoven throughout. Cold weather layering is well represented within the accompanying lookbook, which showcases creative combinations of outerwear jackets and coats, cleverly mixed in with sweaters, cardigans, tees, button-downs and trousers.
A fabric-blocked varsity jacket is a particular highlight, and plays the starring role in an ensemble that features a soft blue Oxford shirt, a sleek pair of bronze cropped chinos, simple black lace-up boots and a white shoulder bag.
Meanwhile, a printed duffle coat acts as an ideal statement piece to go along with an inner denim jacket and a pair of black fitted chinos.
In keeping with the brand’s Japanese roots, denim plays an integral role in the collection. The rugged fabric contrasts wonderfully against other seasonally-appropriate textures such as cotton, wool and herringbone, as well as alternative denim washes.
Black, blue, brown and grey make up the majority of the palette, yet rich shades of red, yellow, khaki and green subtly reveal themselves in complementary layers, helping to round out this contemporary yet functional aesthetic.
