DSquared2 Potion: Blue Cadet
Despite its sudden disappearance, we’re refusing to give up on the sun just yet, and are painfully clutching on to the remnants of summer by investing in the new fragrance from DSquared2.
Following on from the brand’s second male scent, Potion, released in 2011, the new fragrance, Potion: Blue Cadet is far lighter than its aromatic predecessor. The latest release has in fact drawn its inspiration from ‘the magical energy of air’, rather than the dense woody backdrops of the previous two perfumes.
Despite being delivered in the same thick glass and chunky, masculine bottle as the original Potion, the liquid of Blue Cadet is far different, appearing in a natural, light blue-ish hue as opposed to the dark amber of its ancestor.
This colour choice was not unintentional, of course, with the blue acting as a symbol of the luminosity and limitlessness of the sky, as well as being reminiscent of the uniform worn by cadets: proud men tempered by strict education.
The fragrance itself is said to be ever-changing, offering a different emotion to its wearer every day in an effort to replicate the air around us. The intensely fresh (yet seductive) scent is created through a mix of zesty fruits: bergamot zest, mandarin juice drops and a peel of pink grapefruit, combined with sharp woody fragrances – Siberian pine leaves, blue hemlock needles and fir balsam branches – as well as sweeter base notes of musk and tonka beans, the latter of which have a smell resembling vanilla or cinnamon, which will take this zingy perfume effortlessly in to the colder months.
