Ermenegildo Zegna Maserati Quattroporte Concept Car

The Internationale Automobil-Ausstelung (known in parts of the English-speaking world as the Frankfurt Motor Show) is the largest automobile exhibition in the world and often responsible for the world’s first full looks at the cars of tomorrow. Held biennially since 1897, the show alternates between commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles dependant on the year and is the go-to source of new car information before it even has the chance to heat up on the presses. One of the most exciting reveals from this year’s IAA was the Eremenegildo Zegna limited edition concept car from Maserati Quattroporte. More than just a mouthful, the Maserati Quattroporte Eremenegildo Zegna car is the product of a special marriage between the two iconic and eponymous companies who stand connected already by tradition, geography and prestige: Maserati, who offer up their luxury four-door Quattroporte saloon car for the project and Eremengildo Zegna, the Italian high-end men’s fashion house who offer their eye for elegant design. Unique in its colouring and use of materials, the car features a special effect paint finish that highlights the purity and practically protean nature of the metal utilised in its production. The effect is achieved via the application of ultra-fine aluminium pigments, creating the impression of added depth. The platinum metal colour of the finish lends an unusual added warmth, which works to express the car’s classic yet contemporary and technically advanced make-up. The interior plays a similar role in communicating the warmth with hues such as moka and greige being re-interpreted in modern keys in an attempt to play off of Ermenegildo Zegna’s latest collections. Formality and sophistication is the name of the game, with door panels, roof linings and seats boasting genuine soft leather finishes as well as bright, velvety fabrics. The car was presented at this stage as a limited edition concept only, whilst full development for a production version that maintains the distinct character and quality is planned for 2014.
