Fly53 Spring/Sumer Collection
The SS13 collection by Fly53 has recently been released and it’s symptomatic of the brand’s rock ‘n’ roll ethos – evoking a loud, in-your-face style. The British streetwear brand places particular emphasis on pop art colours and graphics for the current season, creating a variety of bold outfits and statement garments.
Flaunting daring hues on classic, clean cut items, the range is both lively and contemporary. Oxblood colouring is prominent throughout – a natural progression from AW12’s burgundy trend. Another, more subtle, development within the collection sees the transition of patches and labels from sleeve ends to pockets, thereby bringing the range in line with current streetwear trends and aesthetics.
The highlight of the whole collection is the crying woman design. Printed onto a t-shirt and sweatshirt, the graphic uses block colouring that appears to take inspiration from the Lichtenstein/Warhol pop art movement – however, rather than being a direct copy or ‘rip-off’, the image has been designed in such a way that, despite utilising a classic style, it carries a genuinely unique guise. Both styles come complete with navy contrast sleeves that offer on trend appeal whilst simultaneously anchoring the vivid design.
The rest of the collection maintains the avant garde precedent set by this pop art print. T-shirts, sweatshirts and shirts feature detailed patterns/prints, block colours and contrasting images that are designed to get you noticed. This concoction of daring styles emphasises the 1960s-inspired psychedelic theme the brand were aiming for, making Fly53’s SS13 collection an ideal option for any summer festival or party-goer.
