GANT endeavour to take us on a round the world trip with their new SS13 collection. With inspiration provided by coastal cultures around the globe, we see beach and nautical influences from Brazil, the US and India incorporated to deliver a smart yet casual collection.
We begin in India, specifically the city of Chennai, where madras originated from. The plaid patterned fabric has long been a signature of the GANT brand and it makes several appearances within the new collection. East coast summer classics such as Oxford shirts, shorts and blazers are all available in traditionally bold preppy colours as well as more toned down combinations.
Balance these bold patterns with smart white and khaki pieces – for example, try paring a bold madras shirt with the classic tailored navy shorts and an off white blazer this summer:
The next stop is Montauk, a beach town on the eastern tip of Long Island. It’s a place known for its relaxed laissez-faire attitude, and chosen by many NYC dwellers for weekend gateways.
The nautical inspirations and touches we see in the collection are derived from this little American town, with staples like polos, sweaters, shorts and sailing jackets helping you look the part – whether on deck or on the London high street.
A maritime colour palette of strong primaries and fresh neutrals is complemented with classic bold stripes:
We end our journey with a pit stop in Brazil. Taking inspiration from the vibrancy of Rio, we see classic preppy pieces with a touch of Latin heat.
A more vivid palette of ultra saturated yellows, oranges, pinks and aquamarines will inject a pop of colour to your existing wardrobe, with the orange slim cut jeans being a particular highlight.
Light fabrics such as cool cottons and linen are used to make GANT staples more summer friendly, wherever you decide to spend your holidays:
The collection is available in stores and at gant.co.uk.
