Garrett Leight x Mark McNairy Summer 2013
American designer Mark McNairy is making all headlines this season with a number of hot collaborations. The latest is a limited edition capsule sunglasses collection with luxury eyewear company Garrett Leight. The collaborative effort, aptly titled ‘MADE IN AMERICA’, features the best qualities of both brands in a single, meticulously-crafted product.
In contrast with last year’s effort, this season’s offering is one single model, referred to as ‘Number 3’ and available in three distinct colour combinations. Your choices include dark tortoiseshell frames with brown lenses, light honey-caramel tortoiseshell with dark green lenses and matte black with muted grey lenses. Similar to other Garrett Leight models, the Number 3 frame is a classic silhouette, yet distinctive enough to warrant its own purchase.
The sunglasses, described in the original press release as the symbiosis of “American craftsmanship and premium Japanese acetate”, are one of the few stylish investments worth going for this summer. The classic frames complement the majority of face shapes whilst the wide quirky key-hole bridge distinguishes the glasses from other more traditional models.
Staying true to the American roots of the eyewear company, the shades are handmade in the U.S.A and feature construction details such as hand-drilled real riveted hinges to enhance the frame’s strength and sturdiness.
Much like Ray-Ban’s iconic Wayfarers, Aviators and Clubmasters, the Garrett Leight x Mark McNairy collaboration projects the same luxurious star quality thanks to the perfect blend of workmanship and design. In order to really channel the effortless cool of style icons such as J.F. Kennedy, Steve McQueen and James Dean, try pairing the glasses with a white, grey or Breton stripe t-shirt, dark trousers/jeans and classic white sneakers.
Overall, these limited edition shades would be a great addition to your accessories collection – offering an exclusive, one-of-a-kind product that will last you for years to come. In order to bring attention to the collaboration, the Number 3’s come complete with a special edition box, featuring stylised white stars on a textured black background. The case is fashioned in light brown leather with a slightly crooked pattern and the Garrett Leight logo engraved on the top.
The frames retail at £312 and are available online at EyeGoodies.
