Givenchy Gentlemen Only Scent
Givenchy is the next giant of the fashion world to be releasing a new male fragrance for 2013. As its name suggests, ‘Gentlemen Only’ is designed with the modern gent in mind; symbolic of a club for the witty, elegant and self-assured man, with total disregard of pompous and exclusivity that often accompanies traditional Gentlemen’s Clubs.
The refined scent is an adaptation of the original Givenchy Gentlemen, released in 1974. Modernising itself by ditching the classic yellow container for a cool blue hue, the new bottle design retains some vintage charm through its silhouette and brushed metal cap, which together are reminiscent of a gentleman’s flask. The thick glass of the bottle and its subsequent weightiness add an air of masculinity.
The fragrance itself has reinterpreted the classic scent, exuding a simplicity and freshness that is perfect for summer – when it finally decides to arrive. The distinctly woody undertones combine with a blend of spicy, aromatic and very exotic sounding ingredients, from green mandarin orange to pink peppercorns.
Sensuality exudes from the trio of noble woods, cedar, patchouli and vetiver, as well as, later, the notable scent of incense.
The man chosen to represent Givenchy’s new scent is Australian actor Simon Baker, known for his roles in The Mentalist and as Anne Hathaway’s seducer in The Devil Wears Prada – the latter of which is perhaps lesser known among you men less acquainted with the integral workings of the fictional ‘Runway’ magazine – and chosen for his personification of the modern gentleman and the “masculine ideal of the 21st century”.
The fragrance will be available in John Lewis from May 2nd 2013, and nationwide two weeks after.
