Hackett London SS14 Review
When Hackett host an event to showcase their latest collection the following is always guaranteed: the venue will be monumental, the atmosphere electric and the clothing remarkable. Once again, Hackett did not fail to disappoint.
Moving away from the spiritual echelons that housed the AW13 collection, Hackett decided to transform Old Billingsgate Market in the City of London into an exhilarating show space with which to present their spring/summer 2014 collection as part of London Collections: MEN.
Not content with transforming the 1875 Victorian arcaded market hall located on the River Thames into a vibrant catwalk venue, Hackett added a touch of theatre to proceedings with the inclusion of the ever-impressive 38-piece London Philharmonic Orchestra.
With the stage set and the dramatic ‘Prospero’s Magic’ in full flow, the SS14 collection came to life. Celebrating sophisticated form and colour, Hackett treated us to an array of contrasting graphic stripes and bold colour ways.
Cavalcading down the catwalk were lightweight summer tweeds, dogstooth checks, polo necks and silk/linen mixes.
Favourites amongst the FashionBeans team included a shawl collar pinstripe blazer emblazoned with a ‘JH’ monogram on the breast pocket; a mint coloured three piece suit; and a variety of dogstooth patterned pieces, which are sure to be a hit next summer.
Hackett’s evening wear came in the form of an understated summer wool, off-white dinner jacket with black trousers – a fresh take on what we saw from Hackett at the BAFTA awards earlier in the year.
If the impact of the market hall and orchestra wasn’t enough, the juxtaposition of graphic sartorial elements – stripes, colours and silhouettes – was such that ones summer wardrobe has never looked so interesting. The versatility of the range enables you to mix and match a variety of items in multiple ways, with devastating results. Furthermore, with the inclusion of a straw boater hat for weekend summer jaunts, the possibilities really are endless.
