H&M has collaborated with GQ for a shoot of their spring/summer collection. Alongside a lookbook showcasing the best of the collection and a “style spotter” segment (a gallery of street style images which embody the spirit of the range), GQ has selected and styled a small capsule collection inspired by the idea of the exotic traveller.
The magazine’s selection eschews the notion that neutrals are the best way to ground a collection. The range is instead held together by more vibrant, summery colours – primarily greens and oranges – with the palette capturing the exotic influence perfectly without leaving the looks disconnected. Eccentric aspects are also present in the footwear, which consists of classic styles such as brogues and loafers in blues rather than traditional blacks and browns.
Texture, prints and patterns are key to the styling of the looks, epitomising the idea of the traveller by blending influences from all over the world. Textured knits evoke northern Europe, patterned scarves are inspired by the Middle East and printed shirts/t-shirts bring in hints of the tropics.
The pieces themselves are utilised to create a range of smart-casual summer appropriate looks. Shorts and t-shirts are paired with blazers and jackets to bring in an element of tailored elegance – invoking images of glamorous globe-trotters of the past.
