Isabel Marant x H&M

Swedish fashion powerhouse H&M continues its long standing tradition of designer collaborations with the announcement of the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection. In contrast to the huge scope of last year’s partnership with Maison Martin Margiela, the brand has chosen to offer a much more exclusive output this time around, with only 250 stores worldwide getting to sell the highly anticipated line. The high street juggernaut is becoming renowned for its ground-breaking collaborations, with luxury labels such as Marni and MMM as well as designer household names like Versace, Lanvin and Karl Lagerfeld teaming up with the brand over the past few years – making high fashion affordable for everyone. French designer Isabel Marant is well known for her so-called ‘boho chic’ womenswear, which typically revolves around skinny jeans, free-flowing graphic t-shirts and light, swooping skirts. The underlying ethos of the designer’s collections is that you should be comfortable in your clothes and in your own skin, yet your attire should still have a flirtatious edge. The H&M collaboration will be Marant’s first venture into menswear and childrenswear, with the men’s collection having approximately twenty five items of clothing and accessories to choose from. The collaboration is already generating a buzz around the industry as strong emphasis is being put on the designer’s infamous hybrid wedge sneakers – many wondering how they will be adapted and presented to the high street market. Combining the silhouette and colour ways of classic sneakers with the refined edge of suede platform shoes, Marant creates a shoe that can be worn casually, but with her signature youthful, flirty vibe. It will be interesting to see whether this sought-after design will be successfully transformed to fit the menswear range, or whether it will be discarded to make way for something completely unique for us gents. The collection hits the H&M stores on November 14th 2013. Stay tuned on FashionBeans for more updates and the lookbook for the collection.
