Jamie Dornan For Ermenegildo Zegna
Jamie Dornan has landed his first modelling campaign since bagging the role of sado-masochist Christian Grey in the forthcoming cinematic adaptation of E.L James’ erotic novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. The Irish model and actor fronts the latest Ermenegildo Zegna campaign, which showcases the fashion house’s spring/summer 2014 collection.
Shot by Inez & Vinoodh, the ‘éminences grises’ campaign sees Dornan and fellow model Paolo Anchisi looking dapper in suave suits. Speaking of the brand’s model choice, Creative Director Stefano Pilati commented: “Jamie was our face of choice, not only because he is an accomplished actor, but also an unconventional model with a strong personal sense of style and substance. He has made understatement the key to his success.”
The narrative of the campaign relies on the models being positioned in back-to-back poses. The clothes they wear do not need to be seen front-facing to sell – they are portrayed as desirable from even the most inscrutable angles.
The behind-the-scenes style deployed in the ad campaign is elaborated upon by the brand, which connects the artistic direction with the colour grey:
“Today, grey eminences signify key figures occupying strategic positions, who don’t appear as official spokesmen, instead they operate and yield their considerable power and influence behind the scenes.
[These are] powerful global personalities who have earned their success through their ability, expertise and culture, and whose leadership in tailoring style is reflected in the luxury and sartorial elegance of the Ermenegildo Zegna Couture collection.”
Whether the pairing of grey and Christian Grey was a conscious artistic decision or a mere fluke, we have a feeling that we will be seeing a lot more of Jamie Dornan – in more ways than one. Here’s to a blossoming fashion career for the understated gent.
