Fresh from the success of their SS13 collection, British label Judge & Jury have released their AW13 offering of casual wear with an edge. The Manchester-based brand has returned with the theme of freedom: freedom to wear what you want and freedom to think for yourself. This mantra is very much reflective in the collection, which features a plethora of wardrobe essentials that are designed to be worn whenever and wherever. The lookbook images that accompany the new range reflect the brand’s underlying message. Shot in the Icelandic wilderness, just outside the capital Reykjavik, the harsh terrain and stark landscapes emphasises the utilitarian and workerwear feel of the collection. Touches of lumberjack and Scandinavian-style knit prints only serve to reinforce this rugged, outdoors aesthetic. The collection itself features outerwear, denim jackets, worker shirts, parka jackets, knitwear and hoodies – offering a variety of pieces designed to cope with anything Mother Nature throws at them. Effortlessly styled within the lookbook, each garment can be mixed and matched to create classic, masculine looks with a practical edge. A highlight of the collection is the ‘Remand’: a slim-fit dark denim jacket with a contrasting canvas collar. Offering a subtle twist on a menswear classic, this denim jacket could be used as a standalone top layer during autumn and layered underneath a heavyweight knit or parka during winter (both techniques showcased in the lookbook). Other stand outs include the ‘Ronnie’ and ‘Dartmoor’. Proving the camouflage trend isn’t dying down anytime soon, the Ronnie is an all-over camo print fishtail parka with a traditional fur lined hood and front pockets. A lighter alternative, the Dartmoor is a slim-fit zip-up camo print hoody in brushed fleece, which comes complete with a dark oily hand-finish and premium leather trims.
