In celebration of the third iteration of the Pow Wow art gathering in Hawaii, the creative council has joined forces with fast growing and frequently experimental eyewear company Knockaround to create a new limited edition sunglasses silhouette.
Pow Wow, which began in Hong Kong in 2010 and relocated to the more tropical climes of Hawaii the following year, is a gathering of renowned artists and spectators in which the line between artist and audience is indelibly blurred in order to allow aficionados the opportunity to experience an entire creative process from start to finish.
Knockaround is a company known primarily for its affordability and for its many collaborative efforts – the most memorable of which is perhaps their Shark Attack print, based on the design of an eleven year old student. This commitment to bold, original designs suggests them to be the perfect choice of partner for the art festival, and the end product does not disappoint.
The injection-molded sunglasses feature a rich, two-tone red and black colourway with embossed metal Knockaround brand detailing on the outside of either temple. They are finished with the Pow Wow Hawaii logo on the inside temple, with a second Pow Wow Hawaii logo laser etched onto the lenses.
Only 1,000 pairs have been manufactured, ensuring they will become a collector’s item in the future. Half of the collection are on sale already at the Fresh Café store in Honolulu, while the other 500 pieces will soon be made available direct from the Knockabout website store.
