L’Estrange L’E Shop Christmas Pop-Up
L’Estrange London is the latest resident of no. 46, on Covent Garden’s Monmouth Street. The brand opened their Christmas pop-up L’E shop last month, attracting an energetic troop of London’s bright young things and creatives.
The shop, a more intimate space than the brand’s last pop-up venture, is a neatly formed venue with a sense of permanency. This time round, L’Estrange has brought in luxury leather goods label Oppermann London, along with a fine selection of hand-picked accessories from craft labels Eye Respect, Mismo and AÃRK Collective.
Childhood friends Tom Horne and William Green founded L’Estrange a little under a year ago, with a mission to design the perfect hoodie, having failed to find any on the market that met their expectations.
“A lot of our customers that buy from us like to look good, without making a fuss about what they wear – they just want to have pieces that fit in with the everyday wardrobe, which is why what we do is so interesting.”
William Green, Co-Founder, L’Estrange
The label’s luxe zip-ups are renowned for their distinct linings, which are produced, along with the brand’s pocket squares, in partnership with esteemed British brand Liberty. Horne and Green’s focus on attention to detail is marked, with every component of their hoodies sourced from specialists in the field.
“Ultimately, our label is about creating precise, quality pieces that have a refined and luxurious sensibility, but at the same time are casual and ultimately wearable,” Green adds.
The pop-up launch was also an opportunity for the brand to show off their latest design, which features a dark-hued lining and is poetically titled ‘Lizzie’s New Year’s Eve’. A contemporary spin on an iconic Liberty paisley print, the lining’s muted purples, blues and greens are eloquently juxtaposed with punchy flecks of white.
Amongst the throng of the crowd, circulating popcorn canapés and cocktails, Mattis Oppermann was on hand to explain the ethos behind his brand, Oppermann London, which is currently stocked at the retail location.
Established in London by Swedish-born Mattis and his elder brother Niklas, the creative duo seek to bring the clean-lined sophistication of Nordic design to men’s leather accessories.
“We source all of our leather from tanneries in Scandinavia and the Netherlands that only use natural vegetable dyes – the climate is colder there, so the hides have a thicker, more durable quality,” explains Mattis.
The concise selection of clothing and accessories at the pop-up shows off the finest elements of modern design. From exceptional materials to discerning longevity, the space conveys the overwhelming impression that everyone involved knows a thing or two about the direction of contemporary menswear.
The L’Estrange L’E Shop pop-up runs from 28th November to 8th January 2014 at 46, Monmouth Street, Covent Garden, WC2H 9LE.
