Hawes & Curtis

If you’re a fan of your tailoring, you’ll undoubtedly already be familiar with the classic Jermyn Street shirt-maker Hawes & Curtis. Established in 1913, the brand has a rich heritage and an illustrious client-base that has included everyone from Frank Sinatra to the Duke of Windsor. To mark its centenary this year, the British brand has announced an impressive expansion plan, which is set to take place over the next five years. It states that Hawes & Curtis is due to build on its current legion of thirty UK stores and take its quintessentially British designs to new, exotic destinations: opening twenty-six franchised stores across the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Dubai. Famous for being a brand with a decidedly English personality, owner Touker Suleyman has said that the $5 million investment deal is a real “game-changer” for the company, with CEO of the deal partner expressing his excitement at bringing “British heritage to the Middle East”. With the brand looking to expand for quite some time, the first store will be opened by the end of this year in the luxurious settings of the World Trade Mall in Abu Dhabi. The more distant future seems set to see even further expansion, with plans revolving around replicating the franchise in other countries, such as Indonesia and the Far East, as well as the launch of a flagship store in the United States.
