Michael Bastian x Uniqlo Summer 2013 Polo Collection
In 1926, French tennis player and seven-time Grand Slam winner René Lacoste changed the face of sportswear with the introduction of the polo shirt. Created in selfish pursuit of a more comfortable piece of clothing to wear whilst defending his title as World No. 1 player, the polo shirt has become an iconic piece of sporting attire as well as staple of a preppy/casual wardrobe.
Although ‘The Crocodile’ went on to found his own hugely successful global brand, fashion houses everywhere have since adopted the revolutionary shirt he built his empire around and placed their own spins and signature touches on the piece. One such company is Uniqlo, the Japanese casual and street wear manufacturer/retailer, who have teamed up with CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year Michael Bastian to create a new collection of stylish and timeless polos for the upcoming summer months.
Those of you who already own a solid collection of polos may be wondering what a new collection could possibly offer you over the copious amounts already on the market – and it’s a concern Bastian and Uniqlo have clearly taken into consideration.
With a strong focus on creating a slimmer fit and the incorporation of prints and patterns, Bastian has managed to create an assortment of shirts that could go a long way towards changing the way we look at the standard polo and may well be the next step in the evolution of this athletic summer staple.
The Michael Bastian x Uniqlo Summer 2013 Polo Collection will be available in stores from May 6th 2013 and online from May 16th 2013.
