Knitwear specialist Orley is driven by designing alternative items of the woven variety. Brothers Alex and Matthew Orley, along with their friend Samantha Florence, have successfully launched their first spring/summer knitwear collection for 2013.
The unisex collection is inspired by heritage patterns and mosaics, which is apparent by the tiled effect designs. The motif is repeated in bright pink and softer lilacs throughout the line, being featured on cardigans, t-shirts, scarves and even ties. The knitwear becomes the focal point of every outfit within the accompanying lookbook, especially when teamed with a pair of neutral shorts or chinos.
Ties have become somewhat of a signature piece for the Orley brand; unrecognisable as knitwear due to the fine, sleek finish that appears lightweight and sharp to the eye. Each tie has a unique design, ranging from floral to camouflage in unusual colour combinations, with my personal favourite being the Petra Tie in lilac and khaki due to the soft blend of colours with a contrasting bold print.
Choosing to finish the ties with a straight edge adds a contemporary feel – these would easily enhance a simple button down shirt or smart suit and are perfect for any young professional.
Overall, Orley is certainly a label bursting with character, which translates onto their alternative knitwear designs through clever use of both colour and pattern.
