Paul Smith Shark Tooth-Print Shorts

Unlike a number of my friends, who are currently sunning themselves in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and wherever else is ridiculously hot, I’m stuck here in overcast England. To add insult to injury, I’m about to showcase a new pair of swimming shorts – but in good English spirit, I mustn’t grumble. Paul Smith, the knighted menswear connoisseur from Nottingham, has continued his pattern work from the spring/summer 2012 collection to bring us these fantastic Shark Tooth-Print shorts. The dark, all over pattern is striking, masculine and definitely one of the best designs we’ve seen recently, even if it is an odd time to bring them out. The tailored fit should give you some incentive to get back in the gym after the Christmas binge, but the elasticated waistband and side-buckles should help accommodate the temporary load before you do sign back up – again. The practicality box can also be ticked, as the shorts have both front pockets and a zip-fastened back pocket and would look great under a white linen shirt strolling through the markets. I’m getting jealous of my own imagination just thinking about it. Available for just over £100 at Mr Porter, they would make a great late present for anyone you know escaping Britain anytime soon. How I wish that could be me. Looking good isn’t important, it’s everything.
